This Privacy Policy applies to Sightings services (the “Platform”), which include Sightings apps that link to this Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Policy explains how the personal information of users is collected, used, shared, and otherwise processed in connection with our Platform. If you do not agree with this policy, you should not use the Platform.

Information You Provide

Email Address, Password, Username, and Display Name

You provide these items when you sign up for an account on the Platform. We use your email address and password to authenticate you in future sessions. Your email address can also be used to reset your password, send you updates about the platform, if you opt-in for those, and to otherwise communicate with you. Your username is used to identify you to other users, in any posts and comments that you create and in your public profile. Your display name is meant to let you express your identity in a broader way.

Date of Birth

You provide your date of birth before you can add any content to the Platform. This information is used to calculate your age and determine if you are allowed to add content on the platform.

User Content

When you add content to the Platform, including posts and comments, we process that information.

Correspondence

When you contact us, including for support or feedback, we process that information.

Surveys

When you participate in surveys conducted by us, we process that information.

Information Automatically Collected When You Use The Platform

Usage Information

We collect information regarding your use of the Platform, e.g., how you engage with the Platform, including how you interact with content, what problems you encounter, viewing and search history, the content you respond to, the content you save for later consumption or star for repeat consumption. We use this information to improve the Platform.

Technical Information

We collect certain information about the device you use to access the Platform, such as your network type, IP address, time zone settings, model of your device, device identifiers, screen resolution, and operating system. We use this information to aid with the proper functioning of the Platform.

Location Information

We collect information about your approximate location, including location information based on your device’s SIM card or IP address. With your permission, we may also collect your device’s precise location through its GPS sensor. We use this information to send you location-based notifications.

Disparate Information

We may receive information about you from others, including when you are mentioned in User Content, in Correspondence submitted to us, or if your contact information is provided to us.

We use your information to provide, analyze, administer, enhance and personalize our services, to process your registration, and to communicate with you on these and other topics.

With Whom We Share Information About You

• We share your data with third-party service providers who help us to deliver the Platform, such as cloud storage providers and analytics providers.
• Where and when required by law, we will share your information with government or law enforcement agencies, and with third parties pursuant to a legally binding court order.
• To date, we have not shared any user information with a government or law enforcement agency. We likely won’t be able to tell you if we have, so keep an eye out for future versions of this privacy policy with this line missing.

Where We Process Information About You

We process your information through a GDPR-compliant data processor.

How Long We Keep Information About You

Generally, your information is retained for as long as you hold an account with us. Should you choose to delete your account, your information is retained for a certain grace period in case the deletion was in error or you simply change your mind. After the grace period, your information is irrevocably erased. Your username, however, will be retained and blocked indefinitely so no one can create a new account with that username and imitate you after you have deleted your account.

If you violate our Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, or other conditions or policies, we may remove your profile and User Content from public view immediately, but may keep other information about you to process the violation. We may keep certain information longer than previously specified in order to comply with legal requirements and for safety and security reasons.

The Way You Can Control Your Information

You can access and edit your profile information by signing into your account and selecting your profile. You can edit or delete any User Content that you created. We also provide settings that allow you to control the app’s appearance, the app’s language, and what communications you receive.

Should you choose to, you can delete your account from within your profile. Once deleted, your information, including your profile and User Content, will no longer be viewable on the Platform. Restoration of your account is possible within 30 days after deletion. You can accomplish this by signing in to your account within the grace period. However, should this period elapse, your information is irrevocably lost.

The Security of Your Information

In the first place, we never collect more information than we actually need to do our work. This limits the amount of information we have available for exposure in a potential data breach. However, although we will use reasonable measures to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of this information when it is transmitted via the Platform; any transmission is at your own risk.

Information Relating to Children and Teens

The Platform is directed at users aged 18 years or older. If you are younger than 18 years, you may view but not add any content to the platform. You may not publish any posts, respond to any posts, nor reply to any responses made by other users. In addition, you may only use the Platform with the involvement, supervision, and approval of a parent or legal guardian.

Privacy Policy Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we update the Privacy Policy, we will notify you by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this policy and posting the new Privacy Policy or providing any other notice required by applicable law. Your continued access to or use of the Platform after the date of the updated policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. If you do not agree to the updated policy, you must stop accessing or using the Platform.
